What a cat costs in Egypt (2026)
The price of the cat itself, vaccines and vet visits, and monthly costs like food and litter. Approximate figures for October 2026 to help you budget.
A cat isn't just a purchase price. Before you get one, add up the costs that last for years: food, litter, vaccines, vet visits, and a reserve for emergencies.
The cat itself
| Type | Approximate price |
|---|---|
| Adopted from a shelter or rescuer | Free or a small fee |
| Baladi (local) cat | Free to EGP 500 |
| Persian | From a few hundred pounds; registered cats EGP 1,500–4,500 |
| British or Scottish Shorthair | EGP 7,000–35,000 in listings |
| Maine Coon | Up to EGP 50,000 in listings |
Listings often ask much more than price sites show, so compare before you decide, and read buying a pet safely.
Vet and vaccines
| Item | Approximate price |
|---|---|
| Clinic consultation | EGP 200–500 |
| Home visit | EGP 300–600 |
| Cat 4-in-1 vaccine (per dose) | EGP 250–300 |
| Cat rabies vaccine | EGP 200–250 |
Kittens need several doses in their first year, then boosters as your vet advises. Ask a few clinics what neutering costs: it varies a lot by area. See vet and vaccine prices.
Monthly costs
- Food: the biggest item. Imported food has become much more expensive since 2023, and local brands are now common and cheaper. To estimate: bag price ÷ the number of days it lasts.
- Litter: depends on the type and the number of boxes.
- Worm and flea prevention: as your vet plans it.
- Toys and scratchers: replaced every few months.
One-off costs
Litter box, carrier, bowls, scratching post and bed. Most important of all: netting for windows and balconies.
An emergency reserve
Surgery or a stay at a clinic can cost many times a normal consultation. Try to put a little aside every month.
Saving without cutting corners
- Adopting saves the purchase price, and often the vaccines and neutering too.
- Vaccines on time cost far less than treating disease.
- Buy food in sizes your cat finishes before it goes stale.
- Compare clinics and shops, but never buy a vaccine or medicine from a source you can't trust.
